Centrelink Special Benefit Payment Rate
Special Benefit helps if you are in severe financial need due to circumstances outside your control. Special Benefit is a discretionary payment. This means it is only paid in special circumstances. To be eligible you have to meet the basic conditions of eligibility:
• In financial hardship and unable to earn a sufficient livelihood for themselves and depandents due to reasons beyond their control.
• Not able to get any other income support payment.
• For short-term payment available funds must not be more than the applicable fortnightly Newstart or Youth Allowance rate.
• For long term payment available funds must be no more than $5000.
Basic rates for Newstart Allowance:
• Single, no children: $453.30 per fortnight
• Single, with dependents child (ren): $490.30 per fortnight
• Single, aged 60 or over, after nine months: $490.30 per fortnight
• Partnered (each): $409.00 per fortnight
Basic rates for Youth Allowance:
• Single, no children:
- Aged under 18, at home: $203.30 per fortnight
- Aged under 18, away from home: $371.40 per fortnight
- Aged 18 and over, at home: $244.40 per fortnight
- Aged 18 and over, away from home: $371.40 per fortnight
• Single, with children: $486.60 per fortnight
• Partnered, no children: $371.40 per fortnight
• Partnered, with children: $407.80 per fortnight
