Since UNESCO selected Indonesian Batik as world’s cultural heritage in October 2009, Indonesian Batik has been gaining its popularity, not only in Indonesia but also in Asia. Before, Batik was claimed by Malaysia as their own cultural heritage, but it was illegitimate claim and UNESCO finally selected Indonesia as the true origin of Batik. This is actually not the first time Malaysia claimed things from their neighbor countries. They claimed Hainan Chicken also Malaysian, Hainan is a place in China, how come Hainan Chicken from Malaysia? It should Malaysian Chicken or Malon Chicken mate! I really disagree with Malaysia ads on the TV said malaysia truly Asia. As far I know almost everything Malaysia claimed were adopted from other countries, even their own flag and national anthem. Unbelievable!

Now back to Batik. Batik now are not only used in clothing, but also for other stuffs such as footwear, souvenirs, bags, and many more.  If you come to Indonesia, don’t forget to buy some Batik. They are relatively cheap but excellent quality.
One thing that make Indonesian batik different to Malaysian Batik is the pattern, Indonesian One has a very artistic fine drawing of Batik, and use real Batik wax. In Solo, Indonesia, the place where Batik came from, you may also find traditional Batik maker. They draw Batik by hand, it was believe the old original Batik has stories on the drawing.

Batik souvenir also popular in Indonesia and have been exported to many countries around the world.
